Journalist and author Stan Grant addresses the National Press Club of Australia to launch his new book Talking To My Country

He speaks of a 'deep wound' that 'comes from a time of dispossession', saying it is at the heart of Indigenous Australians' low life expectancy and high levels of incarceration.

You can see the full talk at the link above. You can also see a short version of the talk on the Guardian, along with an article by Stan about his book. In this article, Stan describes how he grew up ashamed of his background, in a land where his people were treated as a ‘prehistoric relic’ - and tells why inspiration from his ancestors has now driven him to stand up and speak out. ‘Everything we have won has come from dissent’

Stan Grant is a Wiradjuri man and the Indigenous affairs editor for Guardian Australia. He is the winner of the 2015 Walkley award for coverage of Indigenous affairs. Grant was previously the international editor at Sky News and has held posts in Abu Dhabi, Hong Kong and Beijing for CNN International. Grant joined Guardian Australia in December 2015.
