My apologies for my blog being on hold the past months, but I've been busy with an inter-related project which focuses on one of Australia's most famous Aboriginal artists, Revel Cooper.
'Revel' is being developed as an interactive cross-media project in which our audience learns of Revel’s personal experiences, meets some of his friends, and gains insights into the world in which he existed.
We will tell the story of our investigations of Revel’s life, and introduce some of his family and other fascinating people we have met on our journey. We will show Revel’s artworks, as well as personal letters, government documents, newspaper clippings, photographs and other content. 'Revel' is about the past, present and the future.
We are developing a range of distribution methods in addition which include a project website, a Revel Cooper YouTube channel with inspiring Stories, a series of educational multimedia books, and a documentary film which will be directed by my colleague Michael Liu.
Michael and I have been busy researching Revel's life and interacting with a variety of people around Australia. We are supported by a strong and growing core team, which includes Revel's niece Cathy Coomer. We are also trying to raise funding for this project.
'Revel' shows the beauty of Aboriginal art and culture, and the resilience of Aboriginal people. We aim to enhance pride and facilitate connection amongst Aboriginal people, whilst helping our audience gain a better understanding of the past and present issues faced by Aboriginal people. We will reach a worldwide audience, and create an important interactive legacy for generations to come.
We'll be reporting on the 'Revel' project on Sharing Culture, starting this week. For now, please read a summary of Revel's life and check out the content our prototype website contains.
